My Story
Hello,
My name is Kiona Golden. Growing up I was youngest of 3
children and the only girl. I had a special connection
with the family dogs and enjoyed helping people.
In January of 2006 I began on the path that would influence
much of the direction of my 13-year career. I began my time
at Ancora Psychiatric Hospital, located in Hammonton NJ,
working with adults with mental disabilities. Since then,
I have worked with many different age groups and many beautiful
personalities.
In 2016, I was working as an art teacher for adults with mental
disabilities at a facility in Westampton, NJ. I loved to do arts
and crafts with my clients; we would have the walls in the art
room and in their classrooms covered with projects. I loved
working with them and watching how their minds could create
such wonderful art.
Following the birth of our 4th child and only daughter, my husband
and I decided it was best for me to resign from my position. This
decision was difficult because of the passion I have for what I do.
Creative Exposure
While working in the field I was able to pursue acting and modeling
which I absolutely love! Modeling was an amazing experience. Not
only did I get my hair and make-up done, but was also able to
dress up and walk in front of people and take beautiful pictures.
It’s as if that day that very moment was made just for you and no one
can take it away.
Unfortunately, due to an injury I sustained while working in my field, I am no longer able to do runway modeling. There’s a saying about lemons and lemonade…
I felt like I had to do something. Not working in the patient support field and losing runway
modeling as a creative expression was devastating to say the least.
My husband and I were brainstorming one day. I asked him why I couldn’t put the two
together.; why can’t the population that I love working with be in their own fashion
shows? It would be a fashion show for my tall, short, thick, skinny, black, green,
white, yellow ladies and gents. Their happiness is my #1 priority.
Some of the people in the community who over the years that have been neglected or
misunderstood by their families or staff. There is no reason why they can’t be the
center of attention and be loved, pampered and cheered for!
That’s when the name Golden Jean was born. Not only are these awesome adults
Golden but they also possess The Golden Gene. These shows are exciting for me and
I know that you will be amazed to see how much everyone has to offer.
